Colorlines.com’s gender blogger Akiba Solomon wrote about a new influx of Asian models on the runway at this past week’s New York Fashion Week. Urban fashion blog Fashion Bomb Daily has another trend they’ve been observing: black male models used as props in editorial fashion shoots. They point out that the only time you see black male models in beauty magazines is when they’re surrounding female models as props, and often times gazing at women lustfully. The last time we had a black male supermodel was in the 1990’s when Tyson Beckford was headlining Ralph Lauren ad campaigns and appearing in Toni Braxton music videos. Since then you can’t even find a black male model on magazine’s Top 10 lists.

Nearly all prisoners in the UK are male (6) and the majority of these prisoners have mental health problems which means in effect that our prisons are highly populated with males who need help with their mental health. In our schools girls are now regularly outperforming boys academically. Men and women still to this day have different employment conditions and parental rights. There are very few gender-specific health services for men in the UK but a great many for women.

But to answer your question: striped shirts (particularly those of the narrow, vertical variety) are the perfect medium between corporate casual and casual-casual. (You can thank straight guys everywhere for making that a necessary distinction.) The trick is to find a shirt that looks too casual for a job in Inside Sales and too fancy for bottle service at a Lake Tahoe Casino nightclub.I would love to tell you that the goal is to show we're classy without being stuffy, but really we're probably just trying to hide a beer gut. This is still preferable to the alternative: showing off our bicep diameter with an upscale t-shirt.

The general perception of the society focuses on a direct conflict between feminism and romance.Therefore, Laurie Rudman and Julie Phelan, from Rutgers University in the US, carried out a study to challenge this perception.They conducted a laboratory survey of 242 American undergraduates and an online survey including 289 older adults who were more likely to have had longer relationships and greater life experience.They looked at the perception of men and women of their own feminism and its link to relationship health, measured by a combination of overall relationship quality, agreement about gender equality, relationship stability and sexual satisfaction.The findings of the survey showed that having a feminist partner was associated with healthier heterosexual relationships for women.  Men with feminist partners also reported both more stable relationships and greater sexual satisfaction.

CARFAC is lobbying to include artists' resale rights, or ARR, in Bill C-32, the copyright legislation now working its way through the parliamentary sausage grinder. The law would give Canadian visual artists a claim to a small percentage of the price of any of their works resold for more than $1,000 at auction or in a commercial gallery. It would apply to a late artist's heirs for up to 50 years, the legal lifespan of copyright in Canada.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has just enriched its permanent collection with 195 promised gifts of works by some of the biggest names in art in the last half century. They include Jackson Pollock, David Smith, Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Francis Bacon and Gerhard Richter.The museum will not put a dollar value on the cache pledged by various benefactors, who include present and former board members, but today's resurgent auction market might reckon its total value in nine figures.This acquisition comes less than a year after SFMOMA got a tremendous boost with its long-term agreement to steward the collection of Doris and Donald Fisher, (The GAP stores) some 1,100 works, most of them by defining creative figures of the mid to late 20th century such as Alexander Calder, Cy Twombly, Agnes Martin, Andy Warhol, Richard Serra and Chuck Close.This latest spate of art kicks the museum's already high national and international standing up another notch, locking it in among the top five American institutions collecting in the same areas.

An experiment conducted at the University of Georgia involved a survey of 64 college-aged men, all of whom identified as heterosexual and only having heterosexual desires and experiences. The survey asked a series of questions tailored to help researchers divide the group into two camps: homophobic or non-homophobic.The subjects were then put in a room, one at a time, to view both homosexual and heterosexual erotic films. Before the viewing, researchers fixed gauges up to the subjects’ penises in order to measure arousal levels.In the group deemed homophobic, tests found that there were a substantial number of high arousal levels during the homoerotic clips, while the non-homophobic group showed little to no arousal to the same clips.
