«IF EVERYBODY'S NOT A BEAUTY THEN NOBODY IS»

ANDY WARHOL ON MONEY

«It's strange the way having money isn't much. You take three people to a restaurant and you pay three hundred dollars. Okay. Then you take those same three people to a corner shop-shoppe and get everything there. You got just as filled at the corner shoppe as at the grand restaurant-more, actually and it cost you only fifteen or twenty dollars and you had basically the same food».

-The philosophy of Andy Warhol.

POST WARHOL PREDICTION: WOMAN MAG: WHAT MEN REALLY THINK WHEN HAVING SEX WITH YOU!

-I hope she will never discover I get «serviced» regularly by gay men because she's so bad at sucking dick.
-I think I will marry her. I want to see all her hot female friends reunited together at least once and check out their boobs during the wedding ceremony.
She's not that hot, but hey, at least she's still less expensive than a hooker.

IT'S USELESS TO BE YOUNG WITHOUT BEING BEAUTIFUL AND VICE VERSA

TOM WOLFE ON ANDY WARHOL

At first, Andy Warhol, for exemple would go out to dinner and wouldn't know one end of that long
lineup of silverware on the table from the other, and so he would sit there at some five or six-course
dinner at the Burden's or wherever without touching a morsel, not the crème sénégalaise, nor the lobster
cardinal, nor the veal Valdostana, nor the salad Grant Street nor the fresh pear halves Harry & David-
until finally the lady seated to his left would say «But, Mr Warhol you haven't touch a thing!» Whereupon
Andy would say «Oh, I only eat candy». Warhol learned fast, howver, and he soon knew how to take
whatever he wanted. The bohemian, by definition was one who did things the bourgeois didn't dare do.
True enough, said Warhol, and he added an inspired refinement: nothing is more bourgeois than to be
afraid to look bourgeois»

ANDY WARHOL ON PRO WRESTLING: «IT'S ENTERTAINMENT, IT'S SHOW BUSINESS, IT'S CHIC»

«GOOD BUSINESS IS THE BEST ART»

Oh Forever 21, I just can’t quit you! Each year I get older and think “Maybe I’ll stop shopping at Forever 21 for real this time.” But each year the fast-fashion purveyor gets the best of me with adorable prints and mouth-watering prices. And they’ve done it again, this time with a Jean-Michael Basquiat and Keith Haring collection. I want everything, and you probably will too.
Forever 21’s Artist Series is a line of cropped tanks and body con dresses printed with iconic images from Basquat and Haring’s artwork. While I’m not sure the artists would be too thrilled to see their work on stretchy cotton garments meant to be worn by faux-counterculture teenagers, this kind of thing is what Forever 21 does best.

«I LIKE MONEY ON THE WALL»

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: MONEY

You really can see the class of the store you're shopping at by the way the cashier gives you back your change. The poor gives you the paper money and then the coins on top. The rich always do the opposite.

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: ARGENT

HOW ANDY WARHOL KILLED THE AVANT-GARDE

«Supporters of the arts who gleefully cheer when a religious symbol is maltreated act as if that response authenticates their avant-garde credentials. But here's the bad news: the avant-garde is dead. It was killed over forty years ago by Pop Art and by one of my heroes Andy Warhol a decadent catholic. The era of vigorous oppositional art inaugurated two hundreds years ago by Romanticism is long gone. The controversies over Andreas Serrano, Robert Mapplethorpe and Chris Ofili were just fading sparks of an old cause».

IT'S USELESS TO BE YOUNG WITHOUT BEING BEAUTIFUL AND VICE VERSA

INTERVIEW WITH EDWARD LUCIE SMITH 1981

Edward Smith: Would you like to see your pictures on as many walls as possible, then?
Andy Warhol: Uh, no, I like them in closets.
Edward Smith: Why is it more of a pleasure to do 30 or 40 pictures than to do just one?
Andy Warhol: Then I can, uh, listen to my soundabout which looks just like the thing that I'm wearing now, and you can listen to opera and stuff like that.
Edward Smith: Does that mean you don't have to think when you're painting?
Andy Warhol: No, you can listen to really good music.
Edward Smith: So, what, painting is an excuse to listen to really good music?
Andy Warhol: Oh, yeah.

Edward Smith: What do you think is the characteristic of a really nice person? Some people you obviously do like more than others.
Andy Warhol: Ummm, well, if they talk a lot.
Edward Smith: What, and don't make you talk?
Andy Warhol: Yeah, yes, that's a really nice person.
Edward Smith: Thank you, Andy.

«GOOD BUSINESS IS THE BEST ART»

The world wide web is frequently cast as the great enemy of traditional culture, undermining the music industry, the film industry and publishing. Yet one form of art has now found a way through – perhaps even a way to thrive – and provide careers for artists of the future. The visual arts are booming online.
This is the claim of a growing number of virtual art galleries, backed this spring by an annual survey of the fine art market. The survey shows the value of the online trade is now around £1.57bn and is likely to more than double by 2018. Experienced art collectors and newcomers are both increasingly using websites to find original contemporary works and ordering them for delivery like furniture. There is no need to go to a gallery or deal with frosty gallery owners. Instead, art can be viewed, paid for and returned if it does not match expectation.
"We have reached a tipping point," said Osman Khan, co-founder ofNew York-based Paddle8 online auction site. "People feel more comfortable with the experience of buying expensive things online." In January, Rebecca Wilson, chief curator and director of artist development for Saatchi Art, moved to Los Angeles from London to work full time on the website's projects. She agrees that the business has taken off.

We go to the bar and we're talking and then she says, "Let's go have coffee," and we go to this coffee shop and end up, at three in the morning, half a block from her apartment. Finally, she says, "All right, well, goodnight." She's ready to go home alone and I look at her, like, "What do you mean? Aren't we going to go back to your apartment?" "No." "What?" And she says, "Do you think I was leading you on?" Un-fucking-believable. I can't tell you the rage. I am, at that point, looking at her and.... All I can say is, if I had been an 18-year-old street kid instead of a 45-year-old woman, I would have stabbed her. I was completely humiliated and furious. «THAT'S WHY COMIC BOOK HEROS ARE GREAT. THEY DON'T HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM»

On the surface Warhol's art seems to deny uniqueness, but look at any one of his works and you will encounter a singular, hand-made, human object. «I BELIEVE MEDIA IS ART»
