Critiques et collectionneurs sont devenus rétifs, et certaines pièces imposantes se voient ravalées malgré des estimations plus basses qu'au début des années 2000 (une accumulation de mégots de cigarettes sous vitrine est restée invendue en novembre dernier malgré une estimation basse de 500 000 $. Quatre œuvres sont parties au-delà du million l'année dernière, mais c'est peu, très peu en regard des performances hallucinantes emportées six ans plus tôt. Tandis que les acteurs des enchères prennent du recul, Damien Hirst poursuit son travail d'auto-promotion. Il s'apprête à ouvrir une galerie personnelle dans le quartier administratif de Lambeth, afin d'y installer sa propre collection. Des œuvres de son cru et celles acquises ces dernières années, sous les signatures de Jeff Koons, Sarah Lucas,Tracey Emin, mais encore Pablo Picasso où Francis Bacon.
