WARHOLIAN QUOTE OF THE DAY
"It's so long since I've had sex, I've forgotten who ties up whom."
-Joan Rivers
«NO GREAT ART WITHOUT RELIGION»
«Supporters of the arts who gleefully cheer when a religious symbol is maltreated act as if that response authenticates their avant-garde credentials. But here's the bad news: the avant-garde is dead. It was killed over forty years ago by Pop Art and by one of my heroes Andy Warhol a decadent catholic. The era of vigorous oppositional art inaugurated two hundreds years ago by Romanticism is long gone. The controversies over Andreas Serrano, Robert Mapplethorpe and Chris Ofili were just fading sparks of an old cause».

«A youth is to be regarded with respect. How do we know that his future will not be equal to our present?»
-Confucius.

-Goethe.
IMAGINARY DIARIES OF A POP ARTIST
«Gee, I really love cosmetics stuff. How can we ever get enough of it? Went to the drugstore and there was this new skin care product for «all ages and all ethnic groups». So there was this old lady at the counter telling me this was the best product ever because it could be used by black, asian, white and latino women. But then some japanese artsy looking girl came and said asian was not an ethnic group but a racial one and asked if they were going to launch a new line for japanese skin, vietnamese skin, chinese skin, korean skin and so on. Then the old lady got mad and left..Oh, I don't understand it. Should I buy a face cream for «white american guy», «white american gay guy», or «white catholic guy»?

«Pour moi la jalousie c'est une des douleurs extraordinaires de l'amour. Le mot bonheur je ne l'aime pas, je n'aime pas le dire, je n'aime pas l'entendre...Nous savons tous que l'amour, la passion, est un état d'exaltation absolument extraordinaire et que ça amène avec soi de la joie et de la terreur, du plaisir et des douleurs. Et l'une des douleurs de l'amour c'est la jalousie»

TOM WOLFE ON ANDY WARHOL
At first, Andy Warhol, for exemple would go out to dinner and wouldn't know one end of that long
lineup of silverware on the table from the other, and so he would sit there at some five or six-course
dinner at the Burden's or wherever without touching a morsel, not the crème sénégalaise, nor the lobster
cardinal, nor the veal Valdostana, nor the salad Grant Street nor the fresh pear halves Harry & David-
until finally the lady seated to his left would say «But, Mr Warhol you haven't touch a thing!» Whereupon
Andy would say «Oh, I only eat candy». Warhol learned fast, howver, and he soon knew how to take
whatever he wanted. The bohemian, by definition was one who did things the bourgeois didn't dare do.
True enough, said Warhol, and he added an inspired refinement: nothing is more bourgeois than to be
afraid to look bourgeois»

A GAY PORN MAGAZINE TRIBUTE TO WARHOL
1-In 1963 he made a 30-minute movie called Blow Job (showing the face of a guy getting one) and got it shown in museum
2-He designed the two best record jackets of all time, both of them suggestive; the Rolling Stone Sticky Fingers (man's crotch with real zipper) and the first Velvet Underground album (with peelable banana)
5-He filled an entire issue of Interview with Bruce Weber's photos of Olympic athletes.
8-He did a serie of male «Torso» canvases and treated dicks with the same respect as Liz, Marilyn and Mao

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: TABOO

LET'S GO WHORE, DO SOMETHING!
-Andy loved it when Victor showed up at 54 in a jockstrap or at a Halston party in a Halston dress, in both cases much to Halston's embarrassment. Victor later told me that Andy actually paid him to do these things. He said Andy would slip him some cash and tell him: »Okay, whore, go out there and do something».

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: LE TEMPS

DATING & FUCKING ADVICE FOR THE 21st CENTURY
“When you're interested in somebody and you think they might be interested in you, you should point out all your beauty problems and defects right away rather than take a chance they won't notice them. Maybe, say, you have a permanent beauty problem you can't change such as too-short legs. Just say it.“ My legs as you've probably noticed are much to short in proportion to the rest of my body". Why give the other person the satisfaction of discoverig it for themselves?".

«I JUST READ EVERYTHING»
Karl Lagerfeld on not removing his sunglasses for interviews:
«They’re my burka ... I had an interview once with some German journalist — some horrible, ugly woman. It was in the early days after the communists — maybe a week after — and she wore a yellow sweater that was kind of see-through. She had huge tits and a huge black bra, and she said to me, “It’s impolite; remove your glasses.” I said, “Do I ask you to remove your bra?”

WOMAN IN REVOLT
PAGLIA: I understand when men complain about women giving mixed messages, because women have given me a lot of mixed messages. I understand the rage that this can cause.
PLAYBOY: Give us an example.
PAGLIA: A woman I'm talking with at some event says, "Let's leave here and go to this bar," which is a lesbian bar. We go to the bar and we're talking and then she says, "Let's go have coffee," and we go to this coffee shop and end up, at three in the morning, half a block from her apartment. Finally, she says, "All right, well, goodnight." She's ready to go home alone and I look at her, like, "What do you mean? Aren't we going to go back to your apartment?" "No." "What?" And she says, "Do you think I was leading you on?" Un-fucking-believable. I can't tell you the rage. I am, at that point, looking at her and.... All I can say is, if I had been an 18-year-old street kid instead of a 45-year-old woman, I would have stabbed her. I was completely humiliated and furious. If I had been a guy with a hard-on, I would have hit her.

«Andy was the pope of Pop and Reagan was the first pop president. A movie star as president was a Warhol fantasy come true. It wasn’t that Andy was politically aligned with Ronald Reagan, but the idea of someone who came out of a Hollywood star system and was “created” by Warner Brothers becoming president is very Warholian. They also both came from very poor families in obscure places in the middle of America. Both were mama’s boys. Their mothers’ lives both revolved entirely around their church (in Andy’s case it was the Eastern Rite Catholic Church and Reagan’s it was the Disciples of Christ). And both seemed so nice and harmless in a way. I think they were both underestimated. »

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: ARGENT

KEITH HARING ON MADONNA
«I knew Madonna from before. We were in that scene in the lower East Village at the same time. She was just starting. She used to go out with Jellybean [Benitez, now a record producer], and I'd see her sing at the Fun House, where he was the OJ. Bur I met the others through Andy. He had a way of sort of making things happen around him. I don't go to those parties much anymore; I'm not leading the same glamorous life. I don't miss it a lot, but when it started happening, I was young and naive, and it was really exciting. It was like incredible to go, you know, to meet Michael Jackson backstage with Andy. When he brought me to Yoko' s apartment the first time, it was incredible. You can't believe that you're there. The ultimate one was a dinner at Yoko's. I brought Madonna and the artist Martin Burgoyne. Andy was already there. Bob Dylan was there. David Bowie was there. And Iggy Pop. Just sort of in the kitchen. At first you are more in awe of things like that, but you adapt really quickly.»

TRUMAN CAPOTE ON ANDY WARHOL
« He seemed one of those hopeless people that you just know nothing's ever going to happen to...Just a hopeless born loser the loneliest most friendless person I've ever seen in my life»
MADONNA AND THE ART WORLD
In 1982, says Madonna's unofficial biographer, Andrew Morton, British singer Sade was serving drinks in the New York club the Danceteria. At the same time, the late artist Keith Haring, whose paintings would later sell for staggering sums, was doing shifts in the cloakroom. And in 1983, pop met art even more directly as the then little known Madonna embarked on a relationship with the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Morton reports. Basquiat would go on to be hailed as genius and lionised by the New York art world until his death, from heroin addiction, in 1988. More widely known than the Basquiat link is Madonna's admiration for the work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

HOW TO KEEP THE ART MARKET STRONG
They always talk about how the art market is back or not since the 2008 crash. We don't have to follow how hedge funds managers are doing to know it. We just have to see if the competition level between jewish men remains strong. Is Elie Broad going to get this Warhol painting or is it going to be Laurence Graff in London? Well, unless it's Steven Cohen getting the upper hand on Roman Abramovich...
