«I JUST READ EVERYTHING»

The online classifieds giant Craigslist will finally close down its erotic ads section after suffering months of pressure from law enforcement. The free "Internet red light district," as it's so poetically known, will reportedly be replaced with a new "adult" section that will be more heavily policed and subject to monetary charges. Should we feel righteous and celebratory, or wonder why the state has to monitor the collective libido? The move comes as a response to demands by a number of attorneys general across the country--including those of Illinois, Connecticut and Missouri--after the tragic killing of the young masseuse Julissa Brissman in a Boston hotel by a deranged 22-year-old medical student called Philip Markoff, who had contacted her through Craigslist.
