«Mr Warhol's Athletes Series created in the late seventies is little-known because it was a private commission. The artist was asked by a friend Manhattan socialite Robert Weisman to execute the series. He was said to be paid US$ 80 000. Each of the stars received US $15 000 to let the artists take as many Polaroids of them as he needed to get a suitable image to be silkscreened on the canvas as the basis of the portraits».
