«IT'S CALLED GOSSIP AND OF COURSE IT'S AN OBSESSION OF MINE»

292 Lafayette Street is a legendary address in New York City. It was formerly the site of graffiti artist Keith Haring’s store, the Pop Shop. Haring took Andy Warhol’s commercialization of his art to the next level by turning his drawings into various items, from key chains to pillows. Today the address belongs to Doug Abraham’s Bess NYC, which is updating that tradition in a totally new way: It has found an unusual path to success in the fashion world through the creative use of studs on clothing—including army jackets, flannel tees, and more. Now the shop has morphed into an art gallery as well, with Abraham selling his appropriated art combining anything, from commercial advertising to porn and everything in between. It has become a cult favorite on Instagram, and some of the works are available for sale at the store. A modern version of Pop art if ever there was one.
