«I LIKE MONEY ON THE WALL»
November 11 — Sotheby’s — Contemporary Art
The star here is Jasper Johns’s reinterpretation of his famous Flag, replayed in a beautiful 1983 encaustic on silk on canvas measuring just 11 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches and estimated at
$15 million to $20 million. The Johns has some Pop Art company, including Robert Rauschenberg’s early combine painting Bantam, 1955, tagged at $3 million to
$5 million, and Andy Warhol’s Little Electric Chair, 1964, in fluorescent orange paint and silkscreen ink on canvas, which carries an estimate of $7.5 million to $9.5 million.
