ELEPHANT EARS

«The next afternoon Andy signed books at the Madison Avenue Bookshop. There was a long line of fans and pals, and it moved very slowly, because in addition to inscribing each book to each buyer personnally, Andy also did a drawing on the title page-a soupcan, banana, heart, or flower. When he found someone cute, he flipped through the book and scribbled something every fifty pages or so, little surprises to be found later. And for people he knew he sketched a stylized penis or vagina, though when someone asked what the latter was, he answered «elephant ears».
