The humanities have destroyed themselves over the last 30 years....Erudition is not a value in any recruitment for a position in the humanities in the United States today...It is ludicrous to imagine that the best education in the humanities is to be had at any of the elite schools at this particular moment... The entire educational system in the US is deranged. It's absolutely deranged. I think it's a terrible hamster wheel for kids ... It's grotesque.
