«I LIKE EVERYBODY'S ART»
The Menil Collection is preparing a comprehensive catalog of the drawings of Jasper Johns, a seminal figure in the 1950s American art world's move from abstract expressionism to an embrace of imagery from everyday life and popular culture.
Bernice Rose, chief curator of the Menil Drawing Institute and Study Center, will head a team of scholars in studying, chronologically organizing and reproducing as many as 700 Johns drawings in color with technical descriptions. Expected to span multiple volumes, the Catalogue Raisonné of the Drawings of Jasper Johns is being produced with the agreement of the artist, 80, and lead funding provided by Menil board chair Louisa S. Sarofim.
