WARHOL LIVE
"Most people would agree that Picasso was the most influential artist in the first part of the 20th century — and I would say that Warhol was the most influential in the second half," says Timothy Anglin Burgard, the curator in charge of the American art department at the de Young, who is overseeing the installation of "Warhol Live."Warhol's work, Burgard points out, is in "every major museum in the world" and, perhaps more important, "his ideas are everywhere. His thoughts and perceptions about mass production, the commercialization of art, the repetition of images in media and the very nature of fame and celebrity framed" modern American culture. Even though he is very much of a certain time and place, says Kristen Evangelista, associate curator at the San Jose Museum of Art, "his work appeals to people of all ages."
