“ONE THING I MISS IS THE TIME AMERICA HAD BIG DREAMS ABOUT THE FUTURE" -ANDY WARHOL

Non-union charter schools are increasingly replacing unionized schools across the United States. Charter schools that lack sufficient capital budgets, or that employ flawed teaching methods, can be worse for a student than a regular public school.
But the best charters - and they are proliferating - use strict discipline, constant student testing and merit-based pay for teachers to produce astonishing results, turning underperforming students into motivated graduates headed for college.
Mr. Obama's plan would encourage the spread of charter schools. He'd also increase federal funding for education, bolster pre-kindergarten programs and reward high-performing teachers with merit pay. He should expect no more support from teachers unions, which vehemently oppose both merit pay and charters.Mr. McCain would not increase education funding. Instead, he'd introduce vouchers that would permit parents to use public funding to enroll their children in private schools. The risk is, the vouchers could destroy the public education system entirely.Although the McCain and Obama plans are diametrically opposite, both recognize an emerging consensus on two key issues: Teachers must be rewarded, and punished, based on how well they do their job; and the only way to know how a student is doing is through constant testing. As these two principles are implemented in school districts across America, they will revolutionize the quality of public education.
