ART CARS: THEN AND NOW
In 1975 french racing driver Hervé Poulain asked his friend Alexander Calder to transform his racing car. In the following years many artists such as Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol would eventually do the same and transform BMW cars into art cars.
Today in 2007 this idea of merging cars with art and advertising is gaining popularity once again: «Fashion and sneakers companies are the most obvious modern patrons of artists these days but many larger marketers have turned to them to create or build on a brand vision. Toyota has harnassed an array of contemporary artists for the past few years not just to create ad messages for its youthful Scion brand but to make art out of the vehicules themselves» (Ad Age April 9 2007)
