«I JUST READ EVERYTHING»

Arnold Schwarzenegger is straight as a die. Why then he consented to this Blueboy interview? «Gays are like bodybuilders. Everyone stereotypes them and makes all kinds of assumptions about them. For a lot of years I've been categorized. I have suffered from being stereotyped so I feel for what it must be like to be gay. People meet me and they have already made up their minds about me because I'm a bodybuilder. It has hurt me». Arnold pauses and continues, «I respect gay men, communicate with them, associate with them»

WOMAN IN REVOLT

UP THERE

Had to go to see the Keith Haring closing. Went all the way down there to see what people are doing and I got jealous. Bought Keith memorabilia and posters from the show. This is at the Disco annex of the Tony Shafrazi Gallery. Ran into people and it was weird. This Keith thing reminded me of the old days when I was up-there

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: LUCIDITÉ

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: STEREOTYPES

I like the idea of people saying stereotypes are never true and then watching eight black guys running the 100 meters final at the Olympics, a gay young guy looking effeminate and crying for Britney on You Tube, or a big fat girl with a buzz cut leading the womyn's center at her College. That's great.

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: MARKETING

The best way to sell things to people is not by telling them they should have it. It's by telling them they should have what other people won't.

«I LIKE EVERYBODY'S ART» ( ARTWORK BY VALÉRIE BLASS)

«BEAUTY? WHAT IS THAT? THERE IS NO BEAUTY IN ITSELF»

The Pythagoreans believed that beauty is a manifestation of harmonious, mathematical relations such as the golden section. In this proportion a straight line, c, is divided by two unequal parts, a and b, in such a way that the ratio of the smaller, a, to the greater part, b, is the same as that of the greater part, b, to the whole, c. Ugliness is the expression of disorder and a lack of rational proportions. Beauty was thus considered an objective expression of cosmic truth. The ancient Egyptians were probably the first to use the golden section in the design of the Pyramids, but it was Pythagoras of Samos (c. 580–c. 500 B.C.E.) who first presented its mathematical formulation.

Investors are being warned not to rush in to investing in art, amid reports of surging returns.

Other assets viewed as alternative investments, such as luxury cars and wine, have also been grabbing headlines. The interest is understandable given the income being paid by more traditional assets, such as bonds, or by savings accounts. The global art market is booming, with last year’s sales reaching a record £37bn, a 7pc year-on-year increase and a little above the 2007 high of £35bn, according to the most recent figures from the European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF).Just two months ago, an oil painting by French Post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin titled When Will You Marry? (pictured below) sold for almost $300m (£197m), the highest price ever paid for a work of art.At the more realistic end of the art market, what can investors expect? Melanie Gerlis, author of Art as an Investment?, says combining all research on the broad market points to an average compound return on investment-grade art, held for between five and 10 years, of around 4pc. “Considerably less than gold, wine and both public and private equity,” Ms Gerlis said.

WAR AND THE BEAUTIES

«But tell me why is that everybody is so good-looking now. In the fifties there were really good-looking people and then all the rest who weren't. Today, everybody is at least attractive. How did it happen? Is it because there's no wars to kill the beauties?»

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE 21st CENTURY: TIME

Thinking about the past is really like science -fiction. Let's say you think of someone who lived in 1415. That person woke up one day and thinking about what he wanted to do with his life said to himself...«Let's do it tomorrow I still have a lot of time in front of me.» And then you think that person is now dead since...600  years! That's really the best science-fiction.

HUMOR 101

DON'T TOUCH ME!

«Andy was very shy. He didn't like to be touched. He liked to say he was completely asexual although I don't think that was true. He liked to be among people but found it difficult. He said the reason he made his first film Sleep, about a person who was asleep was so that he didn't have to talk or interact with him, it was his way or working with an inanimate object because the actor was genuinely sleeping».

«I JUST READ EVERYTHING»

THE WARHOL LESSON

«Abounding were gurus and micro-minis. And there were Andy Warhol, Eddie Sedgwick and Timothy Leary, the Fillmore and the Electric Circus. Only Warhol has survived in any recognizable form, perhaps because he understood, during his heydays twenty years ago, what Manhattan East Village was all about: That nobody's going to do it for you, that someone else's idea needn't be yours and that it's counterproductive to take no as an answer».
